Introduction

The Sankei Memorial Museum stands inside the Sankeien garden in Honmoku, Yokohama, holding the Japanese art of the merchant Sankei Hara, with several National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties among the works. Seventeen historic buildings were moved here from Kyoto and Kamakura, ten of them designated National Important Cultural Properties, among them the Rinshunkaku villa of the Kishu Tokugawa and the Choshukaku pavilion. The garden is renowned for its large pond and autumn maples, and is floodlit on weekend evenings in late autumn.
