Introduction

Aburatsubo Marine Park sits at Koajiro in Miura, Kanagawa, facing Sagami Bay. It opened in 1968 as a Keikyu 70th-anniversary project, built around what was then called the largest circular tank in the East. Keikyu ended its 53-year operation in September 2021; a new operator took over and the aquarium reopened without the railway name as Aburatsubo Marine Park. The site divides into the 'Fish Country' aquarium with thirty tanks, a large circular tank holding some eighteen species and a thousand fish, a penguin island and sea lion pools, plus the indoor Fantasium theatre for dolphin and sea lion shows. Unusually for Japan, many exhibits and performances admit visitors with pets. It belongs to Miura City rather than Yokohama: from Shinagawa, allow over ninety minutes by Keikyu train to Misakiguchi and then a bus.
