Introduction
Yurigahara Park spreads over gentle hills in northern Sapporo, a large garden park free to enter around the clock. Its favourite feature is the Lily Train, a little train covering 1.2 km in twelve minutes through lilies and seasonal beds, ideal for children and anyone who would rather not walk far. The World Gardens collect small landscapes themed on Sapporo's sister cities, while the Green Centre greenhouse shows bulbs and flowers, lilies above all, through the year, so there is colour even in winter. A Japanese garden, park golf course, restaurant and garden shop fill out the grounds, and locals bring picnics to the lawns. Lilies peak in July, when the park is at its most saturated. The greenhouse, world gardens and train each charge a small separate fee; entering the park itself costs nothing.
