Introduction
Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) is the heart of Prague's Old Town, a marketplace, festival and judgement ground since the Middle Ages, framed by Gothic, Baroque and Rococo buildings into a living Central European tableau. On the square rise the Hussite monument, the black twin spires of the Týn Church, and the world-famous Astronomical Clock on the Old Town Hall — on every hour twelve apostle figures appear to chime the time, drawing crowds. The surrounding pastel burgher houses, golden lanes and street musicians make it both a historical stage and the liveliest heart of Prague today.
