Trollstigen
Introduction
Trollstigen (the Troll's Path) is one of Norway's most famous, thrilling and magnificent mountain roads, lying in the mountains north of Geiranger. This engineering marvel winds steeply upward through narrow, perilous alpine gorges via eleven extremely tight hairpin bends, its name drawn from the trolls of Norwegian myth. Driving it, sheer snow-capped cliffs rise on one side and a deep valley drops on the other, while the magnificent Stigfossen waterfall plunges from above in a haze of spray. At the top of the road sits a modern viewing platform cantilevered over the cliff, overlooking the winding road and the vast valley panorama in a stunning vista. Driving this legendary mountain road with caution and awe and ascending to the viewpoint is an unforgettable experience where Norway's natural and engineering beauty intertwine — breathtaking and awe-inspiring.
