Introduction
The Jet d'Eau is Geneva's most famous landmark—a water column about 140 m high shooting from Lake Geneva, one of the world's tallest artificial fountains. It shoots about 500 liters per second at about 200 km/h, majestic; in sunlight it often forms a rainbow, visible from anywhere in the city and the distant hills—Geneva's undisputed symbol. It was first built in the late 19th century to release excess pressure from a hydroelectric plant, later becoming a landmark.
