Introduction

The Museum of Musical Instruments of Bolivia occupies a colonial house at No. 711 Calle Jaén in La Paz's historic quarter. Founded in 1962 by charango master Ernesto Cavour Aramayo, it holds one of the world's richest collections of Andean instruments—over 2,000 charangos, panpipes, flutes and drums, many crafted from armadillo shells, turtle shells and even volcanic rock. Visitors can try playing traditional instruments and, on Saturday evenings, attend live charango concerts in the courtyard.
