Introduction

Lake Turkana is the largest lake in northern Kenya and the largest desert lake in the world (also known as the Jade Sea). The surrounding area was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 (Lake Turkana National Parks, including Sibiloi, Central Island and South Island).
