Introduction

The Merenid Tombs (Tombeaux des Mérinides, also known as the Marinid necropolis) sit on a hillside north of Fes's old town and mark the burial site of the 14th-century Merenid dynasty rulers. Little more than ruined walls and crumbling chambers survive today, but the real draw is the view: it is the best lookout over the entire Fes Medina (old town), with a panorama of rooftops, minarets and sunsets in the late afternoon, right next to the Borj Nord fortress to the north.
