Cap Mechant
Introduction
Cap Méchant ("Wicked Cape") is a magnificent volcanic rock coastal landscape on Reunion Island's southern coast. Rugged black basalt lava cliffs with dramatic waves crashing against volcanic rock — one of Reunion's most impressive natural landscapes. Near Saint-Philippe on the south coast, this is one of Reunion's youngest and most dramatic volcanic landscapes. Black basalt lava flows plunge into the Indian Ocean with spectacular wave action. No railings at cliff edges — stay back for safety. About 15 minutes' walk from the parking area to the viewpoint. Standing on black lava cliffs facing the vast Indian Ocean is an unforgettable natural experience.
