Introduction

Jozani Forest Reserve is a precious pristine tropical forest on Zanzibar Island, and the last refuge of the Zanzibar red colobus monkey — a critically endangered primate found nowhere else on Earth. This forest is Zanzibars oldest nature reserve, and walking through it feels like entering a green labyrinth. Tall tropical trees block the sky, giant buttressed roots and tangled vines create a richly layered rainforest landscape. The core experience is walking along wooden boardwalks deep into the forest, with certified guides, to observe groups of red colobus monkeys leaping through the canopy.
