El Jem Amphitheatre

Introduction

The El Jem Amphitheatre is one of the most spectacular Roman sites in Tunisia, built in the 3rd century AD with a capacity of approximately 35,000 spectators, making it the third largest amphitheatre in the Roman world after the Colosseum. This magnificent elliptical structure stands on the central Tunisian plain, with walls over 30 meters high that have withstood a millennium of weather and still rise majestically, leaving visitors in awe. The well-preserved underground level with beast cages and gladiator passages allows visitors to travel back to the bloody era of Roman games.
