Introduction

North Cascades National Park has the most glaciers in the lower 48 states and is one of the most remote, least-visited. In northern Washington, it features over 300 glaciers (over half of all lower-48 glaciers), emerald alpine lakes, roaring waterfalls and pristine alpine wilderness. About 2,043 km². Diablo Lake's turquoise-green water from glacial rock flour is the most famous sight. Ross Lake is the park's largest. Hiking trails from easy lakeside strolls to challenging alpine traverses. Free admission — one of few free national parks. Drive the North Cascades Highway (SR 20). Visiting for the most glacier-dense wilderness in the lower 48 is a true American Northwest wilderness experience.
