Introduction
Fox Glacier is one of New Zealand's South Island's most famous glaciers. About 13 km long, flowing from the Southern Alps to near sea level (~300 m elevation, ~12 km from the Tasman Sea) through temperate rainforest — one of the world's few low-altitude glaciers. Heli-hike — helicopter to the glacier, 2-3 hours hiking through crevasses and ice caves. About 30 min walk from the base to a viewpoint. Nearby Lake Matheson offers perfect reflections of Aoraki/Mt Cook. Visiting to hike on a glacier descending through rainforest is an unforgettable NZ experience.
