Pyynikki Park lies on the northwest edge of Tampere, centred on the Pyynikki Observation Tower of 1929 — Finland's first reinforced-concrete observation tower, 26 metres tall atop the Pyynikki ridge, the largest gravel esker in continental Europe and a rare patch of urban wilderness. The lift rises to a 360-degree view over two lakes: Nasijarvi to the north and Pyhajarvi to the south, blue ribbons around a city where red-brick chimneys meet forest. The tower cafe bakes Tampere's most famous doughnuts — fresh from the fryer with black coffee, the sacred local pairing.
