Fort Santo Domingo, located in Tamsui District, New Taipei City, is one of the most historically significant castles in northern Taiwan. Built by the Spanish in 1628 and originally named "San Domingo", it later witnessed rule by the Dutch, Ming-Zheng, Qing Dynasty, and British, spanning nearly 400 years of modern Taiwanese history. The European-style red-brick castle contrasts beautifully with the surrounding green landscape and Tamsui River views. The site preserves fortifications, a consulate residence, and other heritage structures. Climbing the castle offers a panoramic view of the Tamsui River estuary and Guanyin Mountain, making it a favorite spot for photographers. As a national historic monument, it serves as a living history textbook, well worth a visit.
