Port Said Travel Guide

The National Museum of Port Said, near the canal mouth, is the best window onto the city and its waterway. Displays run from Pharaonic pieces through Coptic and Islamic art to the modern era, including the story of the canal and the 1956 crisis. An hour or two here pairs neatly with canal-watching and the lighthouse.

Built in 1869 for the opening of the Suez Canal, the Lighthouse of Port Said is the city's oldest landmark. Its square masonry tower blends classical proportion with colonial-era style where the Mediterranean meets the canal. Rarely open to climb, it forms the classic postcard view of Port Said.

The Suez Canal links the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, and Port Said is its northern gateway. From the corniche you can watch fully laden freighters glide past in convoy, close enough to see crews wave. A short ferry crosses to Port Fouad, and museums nearby tell how this waterway redrew world trade.
