No.1 Axum
Obelisk
The Obelisco stands at the center of Plaza de la República, where one of the world's widest avenues, Avenida 9 de Julio, meets Avenida Corrientes. Built in 1936 to mark the city's 400th anniversary, about 67 m tall, it is Buenos Aires' well-deserved city landmark. It has witnessed countless Argentine celebrations, football frenzy and political rallies—whenever the national team wins, hundreds of thousands of fans flood beneath it to celebrate all night. Around the obelisk traffic roars; lit at night it stands out even more—the city's central coordinate.

Northern Stelae Field
The Northern Stelae Field is the heart of ancient Aksum, its granite obelisks towering over an open meadow. One fallen stele ranks among the largest single stones quarried in antiquity, while the 24-metre obelisk taken to Rome in the 1930s returned and was re-erected in 2008.
