Tetouan is best in March–June and September–November, when the climate is mild and the white walls gleam in the sun; midsummer is hot, so seek the shade of the medina and cafés at noon. Spend a day in the UNESCO medina — through the walls and pale lanes, past blue doors and carved lintels, browsing workshops of carpets, silver and leather — then climb the hilltop for sunset over the white town and the sea. Quieter and more genuine than the big imperial cities, and pleasantly affordable, it pairs beautifully with Tangier and Chefchaouen on a northern loop. The hammering of craftsmen, blue doors and the sea breeze make Tetouan memorable.
