Durban North Japanese Gardens is one of the most exquisite urban gardens in KwaZulu-Natal, built through cooperation between Durban and its Japanese sister city, embodying the essence of Japanese garden art. The garden covers about 5 hectares, blending traditional Japanese garden design elements including arched bridges over streams, stone lanterns, tea houses, cherry trees and carefully pruned bonsai. Moses Mabhida Stadium is Durban most iconic modern building, built for the 2010 South Africa World Cup and named after former South African Communist Party general secretary Moses Mabhida. The stadium can accommodate about 56,000 spectators, with design inspired by the Y-shape of the South African flag, creating a unique and elegant form. The landmark feature is the 106-metre high arch roof, where visitors can take a cable car to the top for panoramic views of the city and Indian Ocean. Mandela Monument is a large outdoor sculpture built to commemorate South African founding father Nelson Mandela, located near Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng. The sculpture consists of multiple steel structures that, when viewed from a specific angle, form Mandela portrait, symbolising Mandela spirit of uniting South African people of all races. The unique design blends modern art with commemorative significance, making it an important patriotic education site in South Africa. The surrounding area has a plaza and interpretation panels introducing Mandela life and anti-apartheid struggle history. It is not only a memorial but also a popular spot for leisure and photography, carrying South African people aspirations for freedom and peace.
