Lusaka Travel Guide

Lusaka is the capital and largest city of Zambia, located on a plateau about 1,300 meters above sea level in the south-central part of the country. It is the political, economic, transport and cultural center and the main gateway hub—most international travelers enter here and use Lusaka as a transfer to natural wonders and safari destinations such as Victoria Falls and South Luangwa; mild, vibrant and diverse, with the dry season May-Oct being best. Its plateau location gives it a relatively mild and pleasant climate. As a fast-growing modern African metropolis, it is mainly modern; though not known for dense historic sites, it is vibrant, populous and multicultural, showcasing Zambia's urban life. Worth experiencing: lively traditional markets full of local flavor (City Market, Kamanga Market, etc., selling food, daily goods and merchandise); craft centers and markets selling distinctive Zambian handicrafts (copperware, woodcarving, weaving); the Lusaka National Museum and Freedom Statue showcasing history, culture and nature.
