Lake Kariba, formed in 1959 when the Kariba Dam impounded the Zambezi on the Zambia-Zimbabwe border, is Africa's largest artificial lake, stretching some 280 km. Its shores host elephants, lions, hippos and antelopes, with Matusadona and Sieng'ole parks as wildlife gateways. Famed for tigerfish angling and its sunbleached ghost trees, it is best seen by boat cruise at sunset.
