Rio da Prata
A crystal-clear river about 55 km outside Bonito, Brazil, Rio da Prata owes its name to a white sand bed that keeps visibility at dozens of metres even on overcast days. Guided snorkelling trips start with guides scattering bait to draw piranhas away, then guests drift downstream among shoals of pacu and piraputanga. The river runs through a working fazenda turned eco-reserve, and entry is by pre-booked tour only, so the experience stays quiet and pristine. It is widely rated among South America's best freshwater snorkelling sites.
