Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar) is a landmark granite peak at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, ~396 m high, named for its sugarloaf shape. A two-stage cable car offers sweeping views of Copacabana, Christ the Redeemer and the skyline.

Inside, four stained-glass windows soar 64 metres from floor to ceiling, flooding the vast circular sanctuary with red, green, blue, and white light that pools on the marble like a kaleidoscope. It's a five-minute walk from the Cinelândia metro and a striking counterpoint to Rio's colonial churches.
