Jajce Travel Guide

Jajce, a Bosnian old town where a 20-metre waterfall drops right in the city center beside a hilltop fortress.

📍 Destination Overview

Jajce, in central Bosnia at the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas, is a historic medieval town, once the last capital of the Bosnian Kingdom. Its most singular sight is a waterfall of over twenty metres right in the town centre, where the Pliva plunges at the old town's foot — a roaring cascade within a town, extremely rare, Jajce's calling card. A medieval fortress crowns the slope.

Jajce is a medieval old town at the confluence of the Pliva and Vrbas rivers, the last capital of the Bosnian Kingdom, best from May to September. Its world-rare calling card is the central waterfall — the Pliva forms a spectacular waterfall about 20-plus meters high right in the city center, at the foot of the old town, plunging and roaring; from the opposite viewing platform you can enjoy the picturesque panorama of waterfall, old town and fortress. The old town is tiered up the mountain, with a well-preserved medieval fortress on top (climb for a view of the city and two rivers). Nearby Pliva Lake has lovely traditional wooden watermills. About 2.5 hours from Sarajevo.
