Kyrgyzstan Travel Guide

Nomadic highlands and alpine lakes of the Tianshan

🌏 Destination Overview

Kyrgyzstan is Central Asia's 'mountain kingdom,' with some 90% of its land covered by the Tianshan range. On the high meadows by Lake Song-Kul, herders pitch white yurts and graze herds of sheep, cattle and horses, while at night the Milky Way stretches across a sky silent but for the wind. Issyk-Kul is the world's second-largest alpine lake—vast and azure—and Karakol's snow peaks and the Jeti-Oguz gorge are a paradise for trekking and horse riding. With pristine scenery, rich nomadic culture, easy visas and rock-bottom prices, it is a treasure for Central Asian trekkers and nature lovers.
