Eger Basilica is a grand, solemn Neoclassical cathedral in Hungary—a majestic church known for its grand columns and dome, among Hungary's largest cathedrals and a striking landmark of Eger. Eger Basilica stands at the center of Eger's old city, one of the town's most majestic, striking buildings, and among Hungary's largest cathedrals (the second largest in Hungary). Built in the 19th century, it is a grand Neoclassical building: a solemn, symmetric, imposing facade—in front, a portico of grand, tall Corinthian columns, solemn and elegant; on either side of the facade stand two tall bell towers; at the center rises a grand dome, magnificent. The grand scale, solemn columns and dome, and the broad steps before the door make the church especially majestic and imposing. The interior is likewise grand and gorgeous—spacious, lofty halls, exquisite murals (especially the dome and ceiling), marble, sculptures and altars, solemn and gorgeous, plus a grand organ (the church is known for its organ; summer often has organ concerts). This grand basilica, against Eger's beautiful Baroque townscape, is a solemn landmark of Eger.

The whole building stands by the river, majestic—the brightest landmark on Budapest's skyline. The interior is likewise gilded and gorgeous—grand central hall, gilded dome, grand staircases, and Hungary's coronation regalia (the Holy Crown etc.)—all showing Hungary's glory and history. Visitors can admire the grand panorama from the Danube bank or from Buda Castle across the river (especially at night, the gilded Parliament reflected in the Danube is extremely romantic); or, by reservation and guided tour, enter the interior to see the gilded halls and the national treasures.
