Promenade des Anglais
No.1 Nice
Promenade des Anglais
The Promenade des Anglais runs for seven kilometres along Nice's Baie des Anges, built in 1822 on money raised by the English aristocrats who wintered here, hence the name. Find a blue chair facing the Mediterranean, admire the Art Deco facades of hotels like Le Negresco with its 1913 pink dome, and pose with the 'I Love Nice' letters near the old town. Locals jog here at dawn; at sunset the sea glows orange. Walking the full length is the point.
Square & Landmark
Cours Saleya Market
No.2 Nice
Cours Saleya Market
Cours Saleya market spills out of Nice's old town along a sunlit square barely a block from the sea. Flower stalls open every morning except Monday, when the square turns into an antiques and flea market, filling the air with lavender and mimosa from the Riviera hinterland. Go early: the hustle peaks between 8am and noon. Afterwards walk into Vieux Nice for a socca, the hot chickpea pancake grilled over wood fire. It is the town's liveliest meeting point.
Food & Dining
Vieux Nice
No.3 Nice
Vieux Nice
Vieux Nice is a maze of Baroque churches, ochre façades and market lanes. The daily Cours Saleya market sells flowers, produce and local specialities. Wander slowly, taste socca chickpea pancakes and explore around Place Masséna.
