Place Kléber is the largest central square and heart of Strasbourg, France. Named after Revolutionary general Jean-Baptiste Kléber, with his statue at center, historic buildings around, and the Christmas market, it is the core gathering, shopping and festival space of this Alsatian capital — the busiest public space in the city. Place Kléber is Strasbourg's largest square, at the center of the Grande Île (World Heritage). A statue of General Kléber stands at center — killed in the Egyptian campaign, his hometown honored him here. Palais Rohan (now three museums) is to the north; historic buildings and shops to the east and west. The square is the heart of Strasbourg's Christmas market (Marché de Noël) — Strasbourg is "Capitale de Noël"; every December wooden stalls fill the square, lights and decor turning it into a fairy-tale.
