St. Moritz Travel Guide

Top Engadin resort: azure Lake St. Moritz, Olympic slopes and the Bernina scenic train.

📍 Destination Overview

St. Moritz lies in the Engadin high-alpine valley of southeastern Swiss Graubunden, at about 1,800 m above sea level. It is a world-class alpine resort that has hosted the Winter Olympics twice. Famous for its abundant sunshine, the azure Lake St. Moritz and a luxurious resort atmosphere, it is one of the birthplaces of winter sports - with top skiing and events like the White Turf horse races on the frozen lake in winter. In summer, the high-plateau lakes, Corvatsch peak hikes and alpine thermal baths are equally charming. The UNESCO World Heritage Bernina Express and Glacier Express meet here, winding through magnificent Alpine valleys - a snowy resort where Alpine luxury and nature coexist.

📷 Top Attractions

No.1 St. Moritz
Piz Corvatsch
Corvatsch is the highest viewpoint in the Upper Engadin valley where St. Moritz lies, about 3,303 m high. Taking the cable car from the valley to the summit station, a grand high-mountain glacier panorama unfolds—around are the Bernina range's 4,000 m-plus snow peaks and glaciers, and below the string of Upper Engadin lakes like Lake Sils, Lake Silvaplana and Lake St. Moritz; on clear days the view is open and grand. It is icy year-round, an important part of St. Moritz's ski area—winter is a ski resort with thrilling night skiing; summer you can take the cable car up for views or start high-mountain hikes from here. The summit has a viewing terrace and restaurant. A easy cable-car ride to overlook the Engadin's glacier peaks and lakes makes Corvatsch a stunning St. Moritz viewpoint.

Lej da San Murezzan
No.2 St. Moritz
Lej da San Murezzan
Lake St. Moritz is an alpine lake on the Engadin plateau at about 1,768 m, next to St. Moritz town, the beautiful natural backdrop of this resort. In summer the water is a clear blue, surrounded by mountains and pine, with connected lakeside paths for strolling, running and cycling, and water sports like sailing and windsurfing on the lake, reflecting blue sky and snow peaks—lovely. In deep winter the surface freezes completely, becoming a stage for unique ice events—the famous 'White Turf' (horse racing on ice), polo, cricket and even ice golf are held on this natural ice lake—a wonder. Around the lake are also hiking and viewing routes. Blue lake reflecting snow peaks, ice hosting events—Lake St. Moritz, with its different summer and winter charm, is a four-season scenic stage of this highland resort.
