Drumheller is best visited in summer and early fall (May–September): mild daytime weather suits exploring the hoodoos and canyons, while the Royal Tyrrell Museum is open year-round and worth a dedicated trip anytime. It is also a top family dinosaur-academy stop in summer. Drive from Calgary and allow at least half a day, ideally a full one: the museum in the morning, the Hoodoos and Horseshoe Canyon in the afternoon, and a Red Deer River valley sunset to finish. In winter, dress warmly and watch for icy trails.
