Puglia's fairy-tale trulli-town of cone-roofed white huts

📍 Destination Overview

Alberobello is a fairy-tale hill town in Puglia's Itria Valley of grey cone roofs and white walls. The traditional trulli, dry-stacked without mortar and topped with pinnacles, were said to be built to be quickly dismantled to dodge taxes. Today stay in converted trullo guesthouses, tour museum homes or buy handicrafts. Small yet warm, it is Puglia's most photogenic stop.

🎯 Alberobello Experiences

Trulli wander
Among the cone huts.
Trullo stay
Sleep in a restored hut.
Cone church
The great trullo church.
Village dusk
White roofs at sunset.
Alberobello is best in April–June and September–October, when warm sun and blooms brighten the white cones and the summer heat and crowds are avoided; summers are hot, winters mild. A classic day walks the Rione Monti and Aia Piccola districts — past St. Antonio's great cone church and the trullo museums — then finds a lookout for the panorama of rooftops; with more time, stay in a converted trullo and absorb the countryside's calm at dawn and dusk. Reasonably priced and endlessly hospitable, it's the most photogenic and rewarding stop on a Puglia road trip.
