Pompei Travel Guide

A Roman city perfectly preserved after being buried by Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.

📍 Destination Overview

Pompeii, in Italy's Campania, lies at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, about 25 kilometres from Naples. In AD 79 the volcano erupted, burying the city in ash in an instant, yet preserving its streets, houses, baths and frescoes so completely that it offers the liveliest window into Roman life. The 66-hectare park, a UNESCO site, is best visited in spring and autumn.
