Noto lies in southeastern Sicily, rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake in unified Baroque style. Famous for golden limestone buildings, its churches and palaces line stepped streets and, with other Val di Noto towns, form the UNESCO ''Late Baroque Towns'', with the twin-towered Cathedral of San Nicolò as its emblem. Close to Syracuse, it is an ideal base for the Sicilian Baroque triangle.
