Moncton Travel Guide

A bilingual French-English city in eastern Canada, famed for the Fundy Bay tides and Magnetic Hill.

📍 Destination Overview

Moncton, New Brunswick's largest city, is eastern Canada's famed French-English bilingual city on the Petitcodiac River. Its twin claims involve water: the world-record 16-metre Fundy tides at Hopewell Rocks, and Magnetic Hill, where a car coasts uphill. A gateway to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, it blends maritime culture and dual heritage as a great-value trip for families.

Moncton is best in summer and early fall (June–October), when Fundy's great tides and the tidal bore are at their most dramatic and the weather is comfortable; autumn foliage rivals the bays. Winters are cold. Check daily tide tables to plan a low-tide walk at Hopewell Rocks and to catch the bore, and allow one to two days to also fit Magnetic Hill and the French Quarter. As the Atlantic loop hub (Halifax–Moncton–Charlottetown), it is both a convenient stop and a family-value winner.
