Kanchanaburi Travel Guide

Historic hub of the WWII River Kwai Bridge and Death Railway, also the Erawan Waterfall, two hours from Bangkok.

📍 Destination Overview

Kanchanaburi is a large province in western Thailand, world-famous for the River Kwai and its World War II history. The Bridge over the River Kwai and the 'Death Railway' (Thailand-Burma Railway) were built in the 1940s by Allied POWs and Asian labourers forced by the Japanese; the war cemeteries and museums tell this sombre story. At the same time Kanchanaburi is a paradise for nature lovers, with the seven-tiered Erawan Falls in its national park, bamboo-raft villages on the Kwai and hot springs.
