Jerusalem is a millennium-old city atop the Judean Hills, the holiest site of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam alike — a holy city to be visited with reverence. Spring and autumn (Mar-May / Oct-Nov) offer the most pleasant weather, while midsummer is hot. At its core is the Old City enclosed by ancient walls and divided into the Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Armenian Quarters, with intertwined stone alleys and markets. The holiest sites of the three faiths converge here: the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) of Judaism; the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Via Dolorosa, traditionally the site of Jesus's crucifixion, burial, and resurrection in Christianity; and the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Islam. Holy sites are solemn — dress modestly and respect customs; on the Sabbath (Fri sunset to Sat sunset) shops and transit are reduced.
