Summer (June–September) brings turquoise lakes, the Icefields Parkway and open trails — the pick; winter (December–March) offers auroras, frozen waterfalls and snowshoeing. Spring and autumn are quieter. Drive the Icefields Parkway up from Banff, allow two to four days, and book Maligne Lake cruises, the Whistlers gondola and high-season lodging well in advance; carry insulation and rain gear. Whether soaking up blue lakes by day or chasing the Milky Way by night, this wilderness is worth a dedicated journey.
