📍 Destination Overview
Plitvice Lakes National Park lies among the mountains and forests of inland Croatia, one of Europe's most enchanting natural wonders and Croatia's first and most famous national park, a World Heritage Site. It consists of sixteen terraced lakes stepping down and linked by height, whose limestone-rich waters have deposited natural dams over millennia; the water pours from one dam to the next, forming more than ninety large and small waterfalls, then flows into the next lake. The water shows dreamlike emerald, azure and jade hues from minerals and light, crystal clear to the bottom with countable fish, and verdant forest and waterfalls reflect in it like a fairyland. Wooden boardwalks wind along the water among lakes and falls, and eco sightseeing boats and a small train link the upper and lower lakes; walking through is like entering a painting. Beautiful in all seasons: abundant water and roaring falls in spring-summer, forests dyed in autumn, and crystal ice falls in winter. The emerald lakes, layered falls and verdant forest make Plitvice dreamlike.
