Gold Coast Travel Guide

Queensland's sunny surfing city: golden beaches stretching for kilometers, the Surfers Paradise skyline and dense theme parks.

📍 Destination Overview

The Gold Coast is a famous resort city in Queensland, Australia, known for its golden beaches stretching for tens of kilometers and year-round warm sunshine. Surfers Paradise's skyscrapers sit right by the beach, making it the center of surfing and nightlife. It hosts Australia's densest cluster of theme parks — Sea World, Warner Bros. Movie World and Dreamworld — a joyful paradise for families. In the hinterland, Springbrook National Park has rainforests and glow-worms, and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary lets you cuddle koalas up close. Sunshine, waves and theme parks form the resort backdrop of this coastal city.

Gold Coast
No.1 Gold Coast
Gold Coast
The Gold Coast stretches 57 kilometres along Queensland's southeast coast, its skyline anchored by the Q1 tower in Surfers Paradise, whose Skypoint deck sits 230 metres up. Surfers, backpackers and families pack the beaches; south at Burleigh Heads National Park you trade towers for rainforest and winter whale-watching, when humpbacks pass close to shore. Behind the coast, Tamborine Mountain and Springbrook hold waterfalls and glow-worm caves. A light rail links the beaches, and it is the theme-park capital of Australia. Even in June the water stays swimmable.

Sea World

Zoo & Aquarium
Natural Bridge Glow Worm Cave
No.3 Gold Coast
Natural Bridge Glow Worm Cave
The Natural Bridge glow worm cave lies in Springbrook National Park, an hour's drive into the Gold Coast hinterland, where a 30-metre waterfall punches through basalt to form a natural arch. Inside, thousands of Arachnocampa glow worm larvae hang luminous threads from the ceiling; after dark the rock face shimmers like an inverted night sky. Access is strictly at night and flash photography is banned. The path is slippery with spray, so wear grippy shoes and combine the visit with a dusk drive along the scenic rim.
National Park & Nature
Warner Bros. Movie World
No.4 Gold Coast
Warner Bros. Movie World
Warner Bros. Movie World, opened in 1991 at Oxenford north of the Gold Coast, is the only Hollywood-themed park in the Southern Hemisphere. The headline ride is DC Rivals HyperCoaster, billed as the tallest, fastest and longest coaster south of the equator; Superman Escape and the indoor Green Lantern ride share the queues. Between rides, catch the Hollywood Stunt Driver show and the Studio Tour's backlot sets. Weekdays are markedly quieter, so arrive at opening time and hit the big coasters first.
