The Avalanche Lake Trail is one of the most popular alpine lake hiking routes in New York's Adirondack Mountains, approximately 8.5 kilometers round-trip. Starting from the Adirondack Loj in the heart of the High Peaks region, it traverses primeval coniferous forests, streams, and gorges to reach Avalanche Lake, nestled within steep cliff walls. The trail is named for the Avalanche Pass and the famous Avalanche Channel along the way, where smooth rock walls rise tens of meters on both sides, forming a narrow natural corridor that hikers traverse using fixed iron ladders and cables. The first half follows Avalanche Brook through dense red spruce and balsam fir forests, with crystal-clear water, small waterfalls, and deep pools. Beyond the channel, the trail climbs steeply to Avalanche Pass at about 915 meters elevation, where the emerald waters of Avalanche Lake are set dramatically between sheer cliffs, a breathtaking sight. In summer, the lakeshore invites wading and resting; in autumn, the surrounding slopes blaze with fall colors, creating the quintessential Adirondack high-country autumn scene. This trail combines challenge with stunning scenery, a must-hike classic for Adirondack enthusiasts.

The Hidden Lake Trail lies within the Ko Olina resort area on Oahu, Hawaii, a loop path tucked between volcanic rock and tropical vegetation around a brilliant turquoise man-made saltwater lagoon. Fed by underground pipes from the Pacific, the lake is crystal clear with color gradations reminiscent of Jiuzhaigou. Palms, plumeria, hibiscus, and lava rock create a quintessential Hawaiian scene, and Hawaiian green sea turtles are often spotted gliding in the lagoon or basking on shore. Lake McDonald is the largest lake on the west side of Glacier National Park in Montana, about 16 km long, 1.6 km wide, and 141 m at its deepest, and one of the park's most iconic glacial lakes. Its rare clear deep-blue water comes from glacial melt filtered through ancient rock, and the surface reflects the surrounding Rocky Mountain peaks and dense conifer forest like a mirror. The Going-to-the-Sun Road runs along the west shore and is the park's most famous scenic drive. The lakeside offers Apgar and Fish Creek campgrounds and the historic Lake McDonald Lodge, making it an ideal base for boating, fishing, hiking, and sightseeing.

Glacier National Park in northern Montana along the Canadian border was established in 1910 and covers more than 400,000 hectares, earning the nickname Crown of the Continent. The park is famed for spectacular glacial scenery, 25 named glaciers, and over 200 streams. The core Going-to-the-Sun Road runs 80 km east to west, showcasing alpine peaks, waterfalls, gorges, and wildflower meadows.
