Nuwara Eliya sits at nearly 2,000 meters and is the most famous producing region of Ceylon black tea. It is the coolest place on the island (usually 10–22°C, quite cold at dawn) and is called 'Little England.' Pleasant for a summer retreat all year, but bring a jacket; October–November see a bit more rain. The green tea plantations, a century-old tea factory for tasting, and the Pink Post Office are the signature sights, and nearby Horton Plains has the 'World's End' cliffs. The famous highland tea-plantation train passes through here, with beautiful scenery.
