Wahiba Sands (Sharqiya Sands) is a spectacular, vast desert in eastern Oman, famous for its rolling, tall and beautiful golden dunes, traditional Bedouin nomadic culture, and rich desert experiences — a classic place to experience Arab desert scenery, with the most pleasant climate in winter (Oct–Mar) and a large day-night temperature swing. Some dunes exceed a hundred meters; under sunlight they show warm tones of golden yellow, orange-red, and ochre-brown, and at sunrise and sunset they are dyed a gorgeous golden-red with majestic light and shadow. This desert has been the nomadic home of the Bedouin since ancient times; today Bedouin families still live here, preserving traditions such as raising camels and living in tents (visits should be respectful). You can ride camels among the dunes, take a 4x4 for dune bashing, and try sandboarding, and even stay at a comfortable camp among the dunes to enjoy sunrise and sunset and gaze at night at the brilliant, vast, light-pollution-free starry sky. With the large day-night temperature swing, bring warm clothing and sun protection.
