📍 Destination Overview
The Hill of Crosses, near Siauliai in northern Lithuania, is a low hill covered with over 100,000 crosses, crucifixes and Virgin Mary statues. Begun in the mid-19th century, it became a symbol of silent resistance when people secretly replanted crosses under Soviet rule. Pope John Paul II visited in 1993, and visitors may still plant their own crosses among the wind-chiming metal ones.
