Wangdue is a town in Bhutan's Wangdue Phodrang District at about 1,300 metres, famed for the Phobjikha Valley and black-necked cranes. At about 3,000 metres, Phobjikha is the wintering ground for these rare cranes from Tibet; from October to March 300 to 500 gather, flying to the hillsides at dawn and returning at dusk. Gangtey Monastery, the valley's most important, overlooks the bowl.
