Introduction

The Pointe-au-Pere Lighthouse National Historic Site is located approximately 7 km east of Rimouski, Quebec, and is the second-tallest lighthouse in Canada. The site includes the lighthouse, the keeper's house, the Onondaga submarine (the only submarine open to the public in Canada), and the Empress of Ireland Museum, showcasing the maritime history of the St. Lawrence River. The St. Lawrence River is considered one of the most difficult waterways to navigate in the world, and this pilot station once provided pilotage services for ships traveling between North America and Europe.
