Introduction

Pacific Spirit Regional Park, on the UBC peninsula at the west end of Vancouver, protects roughly 763 hectares of mature temperate rainforest and coastal vegetation, managed by Metro Vancouver. The park contains about 73 km of trails through typical West Coast cedar, hemlock, and Douglas-fir forests, making it an excellent destination for hiking, cycling, trail running, and dog walking, with access to coastal stretches such as Wreck Beach via some entrances. The park is open free of charge with no perimeter fencing and adjoins the UBC campus, often being called 'UBC's forest backyard'.
