Introduction
Corcovado National Park on the Osa Peninsula is one of Costa Rica's most biodiverse protected areas, often called one of the world's most important rainforests. It covers lowland rainforest, mangroves and coastal habitats, home to tapirs, howler monkeys, several macaw species and abundant birdlife, with occasional records of jaguar. Remote and hard to reach, it is usually entered by small plane or by sea, and travel inside is mainly on foot with a guide, over several days. Rainfall is heavy and humidity extreme, with almost no phone signal — prepare thoroughly and strictly follow the park's guide and booking requirements.
