Introduction
Crystal Cave is a rare limestone cavern in Sequoia National Park, discovered in 1938 and carved by groundwater through marble over millions of years. Inside, white stalactites, stalagmites and flowstone draperies glow like an underground palace; the 'Cathedral Room' dome rises several storeys. Strictly protected, the cave is humid and nearly lifeless, visitable only by reserved guided tour with capped numbers. Above ground stand the giant sequoias — the park is home to General Sherman, Earth's largest tree by volume. The dual wonder of rock and forest makes it a naturalist's treasure.
