Introduction
Bridalveil Fall is one of the most prominent waterfalls at the entrance to Yosemite Valley in California's Yosemite National Park, flowing year-round and plunging 188 meters (620 feet) from a glacier-carved hanging valley. The name comes from the way the water scatters in the wind like a bride's veil, most dramatic during the spring snowmelt when flow is heaviest. The fall stands between El Capitan and Half Dome, and the Tunnel View overlook just east of the Wawona Tunnel offers a simultaneous view of Bridalveil Fall and Yosemite Falls, the park's classic photo vantage. A short trail of about 1.6 kilometers along the Merced River reaches the base of the fall, with wildflowers in spring. The glacier-carved valley around the fall showcases the dramatic geology shaped by ice and river together, opening the story of Yosemite's landscape.
